Technical Convergence and Imagination

Day by day, the urban landscape is changing, morphing the physical world into the digital in front of our eyes.

This change provides unique opportunities to create dynamic ways to explore and connect with city spaces and the people living in them.

The key is technological convergence.

We're at a magic point in history where this convergence is moving faster than ever, and some of the technologies involved are mind-blowing.

The magic sauce is not the technology itself, but more in how those individual technologies can be combined in creative, interesting and useful ways.

For example, by combining location markers, augmented reality and real-time technologies, it is possible to create augmented reality multiplayer games, turning areas of the city into gaming canvases.

Combining AI voice recognition, LLMs, AI voice synthesis and character controllers, it's possible to create AI agent avatars who can walk around with and talk to you in Augmented Reality (See our previous posts for how we did this). As you walk with them you can ask them questions and they will tell you about that area of the city, what happened there, who lived there and what life was like over different times of history.

Combining real-time, QR, mobile and 3D technologies, we can create multi-user, remote control interactive experiences to display on screens in shop windows. Shoot a hoop with a friend, or flick through the clothing range, all in the shop window, controlled from your phone We can even have two or more shop window screens working together to bridge locations around the world. Imagine, being in London, playing space invaders with someone in New York as you stand in the street, controlling the shop window with your phone.

Given all the possible combinations, my challenge to you is to ask yourself if your urban space is moving forward with this trend, or if it's still rather unimaginative. If it's the latter, give us a call. We have a lot of ideas for you.
